UNIT/SUBJECT OVERVIEW: In this unit, students will begin with a study on the coming-of-age film “Stand By Me”, with a focus on themes of growth and change within the text. Students will analyse symbols and character interactions in the film, while developing skills in constructing a text response. Following this, students will begin their creative response, studying various mentor texts to inspire their own creative writing which they will write over the holidays. In term 2, students will begin studying arguments presented to them through various texts and media, where they will learn to deconstruct how arguments are created. Following this, they will work on researching, constructing and presenting their own arguments to the class. The semester will end with an exam on all assessed tasks.
